  • Games I'm watching:
St. Johns vs GVSU - I have the Johnnies winning by a huge margin but what I'm interested in mostly is what the SJU team will look like this year. Will Coach Daehn unleash the beast on offense as SJU looks stacked or will it be business as usual as big red just grinds out methodical (and frustrating to lose to) wins.

GVSU vs NDSU - This game is more of a toss up in my mind. Personally I feel both teams are overrated as both teams lost quite a few important non seniors from last season and the winner of this game will get to keep their top 5 spot for now. Both return just about 50.0% of their point production, only half of their AAs, and they also feature new goalies. I'm giving the edge to NDSU because they have a much nicer weekend schedule.

Elon vs Indiana Tech - My "upset" pick but it doesn't look like I am alone here. ITU lost a massive senior class and despite my lack of knowledge to their incoming class I just don't think a season opening road game against a team that just pushed past SCAD sets the Warriors up for success.

SCAD vs TWC - I am as far from the SELC as you can almost get so I could be way off but this could be a close match. It might come down to Parker Thomas vs. Justin McGinnis but the home team has always held serve in this matchup and while I don't think SCAD is reeling too much from their first loss I think the Bulldogs can entire the game with higher confidence.

Nevada/UC Santa Cruz vs. Portland/SOU - The chances for the WCLL to get a win over the PNCLL are running out already this year but Santa Cruz only suffered a narrow OT loss to Portland last year against a much better Pilot team than the one so far this year. Also, can SOU handle being back in the top 25 spotlight?

Also I asked this earlier with the no response but could some chime in on whether the WCLL still gets to keep their AQ despite the folding of CSUMB? I would think they would lose it because it drops them down to 5 teams but that ruling makes these games way more important.

I see no way around it, by allowing a conference to keep their AQ, after they are no longer eligible, from a team forfeiting the season, you have found a loophole in the AQ system. Take notes LSA, get some schools to join the league, start the season, then have them forfeit the season and keep your AQ!

@steveblair don't give them any ideas!

I would imagine they lose their AQ.

#1 St Thomas vs. #4 Grand Valley State
GVSU plays St Thomas the day after playing St John’s, look for the Tommies in this one

    #1 St Thomas vs. Lindenwood-Belleville
St Thomas has never lost a game to an unranked team, no change here either.

#2 St John’s vs. #4 Grand Valley State
Too many unknowns for SJU, I like GVSU.

    #2 St John’s vs. Lindenwood-Belleville
Expect this to be day 2 of a long weekend for LB.

#4 Grand Valley State vs. North Dakota
GVSU’s 3rd game in 3 days, unless there are major injuries GVSU wins.

    #5 Coast Guard vs. Connecticut
Is USCG a top 15 D1 team? No, UConn takes this one.

#6 North Dakota State vs. Lindenwood-Belleville
Expect this to be day 1 of a long weekend for LB.

#6 North Dakota State vs. St. Olaf
2nd game in 1 day, let’s hope NDSU doesn’t get stiff between

#7 Indiana Tech vs. #9 Elon
Elon is proven, Indiana Tech is not.

#7 Indiana Tech vs. St Andrews

    Elon takes it big.

#10 SCAD vs. Tennessee Wesleyan (+5)
    SCAD rebounds against TWC.

    #11 Concordia vs. Arizona (-14)
Concordia can’t win against a D1 school, unless they schedule Claremont I don’t see that changing.

#12 PBA vs. Northern Colorado (-4)
Another big shake up at UNC takes it.

    #13 Dayton vs. Carnegie Mellon
Dayton wins before some a two week break and starts real competition.

#14 Cal State Fullerton vs. USC (+7)
USC takes it close, CSF makes it interesting though.

#15 FGCU vs. Northern Colorado (-2)
UNC goes 2-0 against the Florida teams.

    Zona

    CSF

#15 FGCU vs. Northern Colorado (-2)
    UNC goes 0-2 in FL.
  • Reinhardt over SCAD what are y'all smoking. Scad will stomp them. But I do believe Elon beats ITU but I don't see how everyone has ITU so high they lost everyone except that face off guy who is one of the best out there
  • @rambler85‌ Just as an FYI Macciomei is not listed on the current ITU roster. (Assuming that is the FOS you are referring to)
  • Also I know I said Elon beats ITU but my confidence has to be a little shaken after Elon limps past Appa State!

I'll tell ya, we barely limped past App State last year. They have some good players who make you pay if your head isn't there. They "show up" to 1 or 2 games a season every season. Elon in '12 ; us in '13 ; Elon in '14. Underrated team i really think. If they could get more consistent they could fill the void left by Liberty in that division.

  • I din't realize that he was not on the roster, thats a shame cause he had some quick hands. I think I may venture up and go watch that Scad and Reinhardt game friday night see what all the buzz with scad is see if they are for real

SOU crushes UC Santa Cruz 14-4, after being down 2-1 at the end of the 1st quarter. Something like 12 straight goals by SOU after that to put the game away early. SOU Goalie and F/O man both completely shut down UCSC the entire game.

The other game at SOU today was Univ of Portland vs Nevada Reno. UNR controlled the game which was a little surprising. I believe they won 12-7

  • So I went out and watched scad play Reinhardt and before the game I said scad would wipe the floor with them but scad is just not that good at all and this weekend proved that. They barely escaped losing to Reinhardt who is terrible. They kept switching out goalies but ifth eye had just stuck with the freshman ru wins that game cause the starter is just garbage. But then SCAD goes and loses to Tennessee Wesleyan today. I think that SCAD is way over rated they are not a top ten team they aren't even a top 20 team. I do not understand why everyone puts scad on a pedestal. They have been voted in to the mcla tournament 5times and never made it out of the first round and only earned a spot with a title once. I think it's time to move past scad cause they just aren't that good and don't think that Reinhardt is that good it's just that scad is that bad.

  • Rambler I can't comment too much on your SCAD analysis for this year as I haven't seen them play but you might want to check your facts regarding previous years. They have been to the NC tournament 4 times not 5 and they won their first round game in 2011 when as the 9 seed they beat NDSU 10-8. Your are correct they have only earned the AQ once, also in 2011, when they beat Elon in the SELC title game. Last year they played in the title game and lost to the Liberty by 4 and I believe Liberty was ranked #4 at the time. You seem to suggest the voters for the NC tourney have gotten it wrong by giving SCAD AL spots those other years.

In 2010, SCAD's first appearance, they were the 11 seed and lost to #6 St. John's by a score of 7-4. As noted above, they won their first round game in 2011. In 2012, they were the #7 seed and lost in OT to Grand Canyon. You might suggest they didn't deserve that spot or that seed. Check the schedules and records that season. They played Dayton and Indy Tech in back to back games on a neutral field, losing by 2 to Dayton and beating IT. They also beat Grove City that year but their trip to Long Island probably earned the AL. They were ranked #13 at the time when they beat #4 Davenport and #7 Briarcliffe. In 2013 they did lose in the first round to #6 GVSU by a score of 6-5.

So, to summarize I think the voters got it right and SCAD proved they belonged those years. Their 3 first rd losses were a 6-5 OT loss, another 6-5 loss and a 7-4 loss. Two of the years they were the 11 seed. It's been plainly stated in the past, voters give preference to teams that travel and that have tough IOC schedules. SCAD has done that. In 2010 they traveled to Ohio to play Dayton and Grove City. In 2011, they traveled to St. Paul and played St. Thomas, Westminster and GVSU. This year they travel again.

You may be right they may be over rated but with wins over PBA and FGCU they'll be in the SELC tourney and who knows what can happen then.

    evnar
  • Your right they will be in the SELC tourny cause all they have left is Georgia southern so that puts them in line to play Elon again in the Semis and depending on how they do later in ohio in a few weeks we will see. But after watching them almost give up a game to a mildly talented Rheinhardt and then lose to Tennessee Wesleyan, this year they are over rated. Top 10 teams don't have hiccups, they plow through games they are supposed to and they haven't. So is year yes I don't think the way they played garnered a top 15 ranking closer to 20s
